Some might say Gloria Who?
Most people remember Gloria Estefan as the leading lady of the Miami Sound Machine launching one hit after the other in the 80's.
Even those who are not a fan remember her hits like Conga, Oye Mi Canto, Dr. Beat, Anything For You, Can't Stay Away From You, Get On Your Feet and yes... the Rhythem IS going to get you!
After her almost fatal bus accident on March 21, 1990 her biggest succes went somehow down hill.
But Gloria never left the spot lights and always kept on writing and making new albums. Some not for herself but for artists like Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.
Gloria does what she loves and that is living her live in Miami with her husband since 1978 (Emilio Estefan) and daughter Emily. Close to her mother, sister and Gloria & Emilio's son Nayib, who has a family of his own now with wife Lara. They gave Gloria and Emilio a grandson, Sasha, in June 2012.
Gloria knows that without her loyal [CONGA] fans she would not be where she is today. She is very grateful and very open to her fans. You can find her on Twitter @GloriaEstefan - yes, she seems to be addicted to it :) and every other 2 years she meets her fans in Miami during Conga Bash. Or you can even spot her after a concert or event willing to share her best smile for your picture and take the time to have a chat. And she might be a small lady but she has a memory like an elephant! She remembers almost every tiny thing a fan every told her and remembers all their faces and names.
So what has she been doing in the past months?
Here is an update, and these are just those I can come up with at the moment!
- Working on her new standard album, which will be released September 2013
- She's been taping duets with Paul Anka and Tony Bennett
- Promoting her previous album "Miss Little Havana" released in 2011
- Gloria played Santana's mother on Glee
- Emilio and Gloria are currently working on a broadway show about their lives & music
- She was a mentor at The Next: Fame is at Your Doorstep
- You could see her on "Celebrity Dish"on Cooking Channel
- Next to all this she has 2 hotels & various restaurants (Lario's on The Beach and Bongo's Cuban Cafe)
So yes, she is a very busy lady :)
